Dombai Futuro. There is also a
1985 Russian Mint Cover which features a different image of the Futuro.
CNES Anniversary Cover | Purchased 071917
PhilexFrance82 was a philately exhibition held at the
CNIT (Centre Des Nouvelles Industries Et Technologies) in
La Défense in
Paris,
France in 1982. It was one of a series of such events with others taking place in 1989 and 1999. At the time the
Saint-Ouen Futuro was located outside the CNIT and a number of philately related items commemorating Philexfrance82 featured the Futuro in some way.
On 051582 France issued
a stamp commemorating the 20th anniversary of the
Centre National D'études Spatiales (National Space Studies Centre). This particular cover of this stamp is dated 062082 and so it is not technically a "first day cover".
The cover features the 051582 stamp with a Philexfrance82 cancellation. The envelope displays a photo of the CNIT and, though small, the Futuro is clearly visible in front of the CNIT. We are assuming that this was some kind of a "souvenir" cover available for people attending Philexfrance82. The same photo can also be seen on
this cover
PhilexFrance82 "Presentation Folder" | Purchased 062917
When we saw this item on E-Bay e were not actually sure exactly what it was other than it was clearly associated with
PhilexFrance82 and it showed the
Saint-Ouen Futuro during its days outside the
CNIT (Centre Des Nouvelles Industries Et Technologies) in
La Défense in
Paris,
France.
Being avid collectors of all "Things Futuro" knowing exactly what the item was was actually secondary to the fact it showed a Futuro and so we bid on and subsequently purchased the item.
PhilexFrance82 was one of a series of philately exhibitions that took place in France in 1982, 1989 and 1999. There are a number of different philately related items that commemorate PhilexFrance82 that feature the Saint-Ouen Futuro in some way.
Once we "got our hands on" this item we found it was a "self-described" limited edition (#53 of 250) "artistic sheet" (according to Google Translate; we would characterize it as a "presentation folder") that includes examples of six different stamps issued by France to mark PhilexFrance82 (though there are ten stamps total with four being duplicates).
The stamps are cancelled though each has a different date between 061082 and 062182; pure conjecture on our part but we are wondering if this was an item someone attending PhilexFrance82 would have purchased and then collected the various cancellations on the different days of the exhibition.
The stamps themselves have nothing to do with Futuro but the item rightfully gains it's place in this collection because the front cover of the folder features a photograph of the CNIT which includes the Futuro (to the lower right).
1982 Republique De Djibouti Cover | Purchased 062917

The
República Democrática De São Tomé E Príncipe issued two stamps for PhilexFrance82 with a transportation theme. Neither stamp featured the Futuro but it was included, along with the CNIT and
Eiffel Tower, in some non-stamp graphics included in sheets of the actual stamps.
This mint sheet initially appears to contain nine stamps; in fact it is eight, four each of two stamps. In the center is what appears to be a stamp but in fact is not and it is that image that includes the Futuro (though it is hard to spot).

Futuro Stamp - December 1971 "Cover" | Purchased 041517
When we saw this item on an auction site recently we thought it was another First Day Cover of the Futuro stamp and we did not notice the date was 120471; given the date it is actually a "Non-First Day Cover" but nevertheless it is nice addition to the collection. The text on the "cover" appears to relate to a philatelic society as far as we can tell from Google Translate.
Many examples of the Futuro stamp, first day covers featuring the stamp and other items related to this stamp can be found on this page.
Futuro Stamp - Numerical Cancel | Purchased 111612
Wikipedia defines Numerical Cancels as "cancels whereby numbers were used to identify specific post offices." We are not stamp collectors and know nothing about stamp collecting and to be frank the explanation does not mean a whole lot to us. Nevertheless this is an example of a "numerical cancel" featuring the 1971 Futuro Stamp.
Many examples of the Futuro stamp, first day covers featuring the stamp and other items related to this stamp can be found on this page.
Futuro Stamp - Original Collection | Purchased 091612

- Plate block of four stamps
- First Day Cancelled block of four stamps
- Five Mint stamps
- Five used stamps

Futuro Stamp - Two First Day Covers | Purchased 082413

Futuro Stamp - October 1971 "Cover" | Purchased 071220
102071 saw the issue of the commemorative Futuro Stamp (Scott # 0190-0511). This collection contains several different Covers from the first day of issue. This particular "cover" was mailed three days later on 102371.
Many examples of the Futuro stamp, first day covers featuring the stamp and other items related to this stamp can be found on this page.
Futuro Stamp - First Day Cover | Received 052221
There are multiple examples of First Day Covers of the commemorative Futuro Stamp issued in Finland on 102071. On this version the graphic featured on the envelope is a simple map of Finland.

In 1971 Finland issued a stamp (Scott # 0190-0511) to commemorate the plastics industry; the stamp featured the Futuro House. The stamp was issued 102071.
This small Souvenir Folder commemorates the stamp's issue. It includes an example of the stamp along with some specific details about the stamp and a recounting of the "story" behind the stamp.

Postcard/First Day Cover CNIT - 062082 | Received 052221
PhilexFrance82 was a philately exhibition held at the
CNIT (Centre Des Nouvelles Industries Et Technologies) in
La Défense in
Paris,
France in 1982. It was one of a series of such events with others taking place in 1989 and 1999. At the time the
Saint-Ouen Futuro was located outside the CNIT and a number of philately related items commemorating Philexfrance82 featured the Futuro in some way.
Here we have an item that in and of itself is not related to Futuro but, as can be seen in the second of the two photos below, the Futuro can be seen (just) in the graphics on the card bottom left.
This item is technically a Post Card, at least based on the annotation "Carte Postale" top left, and we were initially planning to add the item to the postcards section of the site.
However the graphic on the card carries the date 062082 and the postmark is also 062082 which suggest this is some sort of commemorative cover and so we have added it to this page.
Russian Mint Cover - 1985 | Purchased 090713
Update 020714
It turns out there are indeed two covers featuring the
Dombai Futuro. This one is from 1985 and
the other is from 1978. They each feature a different image of the Dombai Futuro. As unobservant as we are we had never noticed that the images were different.
Original Information 090713
We have seen photos and examples of this Russian Mint Cover featuring the
Dombai Futuro in several places. It is always stated that it dates from 1978 (usually 122678). This example actually has the date 1985 printed on the back so either the cover was issued again in later years after being first issued in 1978 or there never was a 1978 issue and other reports are mistaken. If you have an example of this cover we would be interested to hear how it is dated on the back.
The image featured on the cover is an artist's rendering of the photograph on
this 1981 postcard that, coincidentally, we added to this collection the same day as this cover.
PhilexFrance82 Folon Stamps Cover | Purchased 072717
In 1982 France issued two stamps designed by Belgian artist
Jean-Michel Folon to commemorate PhilexFrance82 a philately exhibition held at the
CNIT (Centre Des Nouvelles Industries Et Technologies) in
La Défense in
Paris,
France in 1982.
The 1982 event was one of a series of such events with others taking place in 1989 and 1999. At the time the
Saint-Ouen Futuro was located outside the CNIT and a number of philately related items commemorating Philexfrance82 featured the Futuro in some way.
This cover features the two Folon stamps with Philexfrance82 cancellations dated 061482. The envelope includes a photo of the CNIT and, though small, the Futuro is clearly visible in front of the CNIT. We are assuming that this was some kind of a "souvenir" cover available for people attending Philexfrance82. The same photo can also be seen on
this cover.
1982 Republique De Djibouti Stamp | Purchased 070817
This cancelled stamp was issued in 1982 by the

The collecting of stamps is not something we have ever engaged in but as we were looking at different examples of items related to PhilexFrance82 it became apparent that there are all sorts of "variations" on any given stamp.
We could have been satisfied with a single example of any given stamp or other item that included the Futuro in some way but the collector "bug" seemingly persuaded us to the view that this collection of "Things Futuro" should include different variations of what might be considered "the same item".
One of the two Republique De Djibouti stamps features the CNIT and, just visible bottom left, the Futuro in front of the building and this item is (we believe) a "
die proof" of that stamp; a print of the stamp design directly from the engraved die onto oversized card stock.
The print is of very high quality. It is one of several first day covers, stamps and other philately related items associated with PhilexFrance82 that included the Futuro. Other items related to this particular stamp can be found

Futuro Stamp - October 1971 "Cover" | Purchased 120917
When we recently noticed this item on an auction site we thought it was another version of a First Day Cover of the Futuro stamp and we did not notice the cancellation date was actually 103171 and not 102071, the first day of issue of the stamp, so it should perhaps be described as a "Non-First Day Cover".
The cover carries the logo "UF XXV" which was the logo for
Upseerifilatelistit r.y. (translates as the "Officer philatelists registered association" - our thanks to Marko Home for the information and the translation) a stamp collectors club founded in 1946 for the officers of the Finnish army.
Many examples of the Futuro stamp, first day covers featuring the stamp and other items related to this stamp can be found on this page.

Futuro Stamp - First Day Cover | Purchased 050518
There are several examples of First Day Covers of the commemorative Futuro Stamp issued in Finland on 102071 in this collection already but when we saw this one for sale a little while ago the "collector bug" caused us to determine that while we had several examples already this FDC was just a little different in that it was a plain envelope with no graphics of any kind and so here it is!
Many examples of the Futuro stamp, first day covers featuring the stamp and other items related to this stamp can be found on this page.
Futuro Stamp - Airmail Envelope | Purchased 090413
Our collection already includes several examples of the 1971 Finnish stamp issued to commemorate the plastics industry and featuring the Futuro House. We found this to be an interesting example as it was used on an airmail envelope rather than on cover stationary and decided it would make a worthy addition to the collection.
Many examples of the Futuro stamp, first day covers featuring the stamp and other items related to this stamp can be found on this page.
Futuro Stamp - "Triple" First Day Cover | Purchased 081713
We already had a couple of
First Day Covers of the 1971 Finnish stamp (Scott # 0190-0511) issued to commemorate the plastics industry and featuring the Futuro House. This example is unusual in that it actually has three stamps rather than the more usual one.
Many examples of the Futuro stamp, first day covers featuring the stamp and other items related to this stamp can be found on this page.
Futuro Stamp - US First Day Cover | Purchased 040417
102071 saw the issue of the commemorative Futuro Stamp (Scott # 0190-0511). This collection contains several different Covers from the first day of issue. This particular one was mailed to the USA and features a "globe" graphic with the annotation "First Day Cover".
Many examples of the Futuro stamp, first day covers featuring the stamp and other items related to this stamp can be found on this page.
Futuro Stamp - First Day Cover | Purchased 051421
There are multiple examples of First Day Covers of the commemorative Futuro Stamp issued in Finland on 102071. This variation has a stylized "M" as the graphic on the envelope; presumably some kind of a logo representing "Muoviteollisuus" or "Plastics Industry".
Many examples of the Futuro stamp, first day covers featuring the stamp and other items related to this stamp can be found on this page.
Futuro Stamp - Press Clippings | Received 052221
In 1971 Finland issued a stamp (Scott # 0190-0511) to commemorate the plastics industry; the stamp featured the Futuro House. The stamp was issued 102071.
These two small press clippings are about the issue of that stamp. They are undated and there is no indication as to the publication they came from.
Google Translate (which at times struggles with the Scandinavian languages) tells us the two clippings read as follows (the second seems likely to be a better translation than the first - not too sure there was ever a "baking place at the temporary post office on the B-stage of Helsinki's main post office"):
- "The FIM 0.50 special stamp for the plastics industry will appear on 20 October as the first baking place at the temporary post office on the B-stage of Helsinki's main post office. The subject of the 5-color gravure label is the wide range of uses for plastic from button to plastic house, its designer. Pentti Rahikainen and edition 3 million."
- "New stamps
- The Finnish plastics industry is playing an increasingly important role in the country's economic and business life as well as in foreign trade. The year 1971 was varied and partly revolutionary in terms of its development. As a result, a special stamp for the plastics industry will also be issued as a follow-up to stamps representing various industries. The topic has been the wide range of uses for plastic, for example from a button to a plastic house. The date of publication is 20 October, FIM 0.50, drawn by Pentti Rahikainen, edition 3,000,000 and printing method 5-color gravure."
